Jörg Wiele was born in 1951 in Mecklenburg, Germany. He first completed a three-year apprenticeship as a precision mechanic, finishing in 1971. He then studied sculpture under Professors Schwegler and Bobeck at the Düsseldorf Art Academy. In 1980, he received the Ernst Poensgen Scholarship and completed his studies the following year. Since then, he has worked as a freelance sculptor specializing in kinetic art.
Wiele's kinetic objects are precisely calculated and meticulously constructed unique pieces that require both theoretical knowledge and refined craftsmanship. His works unite artistic intuition with mechanical precision, creating a dialogue between movement, balance, and form.
Extensive travels through Indonesia, Sri Lanka, and India exposed Wiele to East Asian religion and philosophy, which continue to influence his artistic practice.
His sculptures have been presented in numerous solo and group exhibitions in Germany and abroad. He has also received several commissions for large-scale public artworks. Wiele's kinetic sculptures respond to the slightest movement of air, forming ever-changing images that convey a sense of meditative calm and harmonious rhythm.
