LIGHTNINGS. MONOLOG EINES INNENRAUMS
26 Feb - 17 Apr 2026
In Lightnings. Monolog eines Innenraums, Swiss contemporary artist Sara Gassmann presents a body of paintings and ceramic works that examine the interior as a space of perception, psychological architecture, and quiet concentration.
Her works articulate a reduced visual language of still lifes, in which objects and architectural fragments are detached from their functional roles and brought into new, carefully balanced relationships. These image spaces do not depict actual interiors; rather, they unfold as mental constructions shaped by a subtle tension between order, clarity, and openness.
Following an inner organizing principle rather than a fixed spatial logic, scales shift and layers overlap, while familiar elements appear in unfamiliar proximity. Motifs such as bathtubs, kettles, bowls, and architectural segments become carriers of spatial and psychological meaning, evoking ideas of containment, transition, and temporal deceleration.
Informed by a long-standing fascination with Japanese woodblock prints, Gassmann translates formal reduction, flat spatial organization, and precise color into a contemporary pictorial language. Through deliberate restraint and openness, her works generate calm yet resonant image spaces that invite attentive perception and inner expansion.
