With Inner, Christina Gähler brings together new works alongside selected paintings from recent years. The exhibition turns towards the inner self as a shifting space in which memory, origin, perception, and identity are continually reshaped.
Gähler’s painting draws on personal memories, her Croatian roots, and a reservoir of images, encounters, and experiences accumulated over time. Rather than consciously returning to this archive, the artist carries it within her, allowing fragments of what has been seen and lived to resurface intuitively. Her recent works are created without predetermined visual references, emerging instead from inner images and the immediate experience of the here and now. Personal perceptions intersect with the uncertainties and vulnerabilities of a changing present, without directly illustrating specific events.
Moving between figuration and abstraction, bodies, gestures, vegetation, and fragments of landscape emerge, transform, and recede. Intuitive gestures coexist with deliberate interventions as layers of paint are built up, reworked, and revealed. Meaning remains fluid, unfolding through the process of painting itself.
Inner approaches identity not as something fixed, but as something continuously formed through origin, memory, and present experience. Gähler’s paintings give space to the traces of what has been lived without defining them. They allow the personal and the contemporary to converge, revealing the inner self as something in constant transformation.
